It doesn’t need to be a weekend to have a slow awakening. When we create a morning practice that centers us for the day ahead, it becomes a sacred time not worth sleeping in to miss.
Every morning, as my consciousness gently comes into the room, I start to imagine the steps of making matcha. Carefully measuring with a bamboo spoon as the aroma of sweet grass hits my nose. Whisking the bright powder into a creamy froth, and intentionally sipping while the sun wakes with me.
We don't hate coffee (all the time)

After being really impressed with Jaymie and her story, I wanted to support an passionate young Canadian businesswoman. Upon receipt, I loved the packaging and components of this beautiful kit that was so thoughtfully curated. I waited for just the right day to prepare my own matcha for the first time since sitting in on a wonderful matcha tea ceremony in Kyoto this spring. Imagine my disappointed when i opened up the tin and saw strange brown powder and wondered if my matcha had oxidized or some other unfortunate circumstance had intervened. I immediately reached out to Jaymie on insta but received no reply. I'd never seen brown matcha powder and didn't realize that was what I'd ordered with my kit. It was so anti-climatic:( It is my own fault for not having a better understanding, yet at the same time, I wish it had been better called out that this is NOT what you're expecting it to look or taste like when you order this variety of matcha as part of the kit. (When having to make a choice within the kit, i just picked the one that was least expensive, suspecting that at the price of the premium kit, they would all be of commendable quality and taste. I didn't think that my undiscerning matcha palate would be able to really notice much difference btwn the varieties.) I really had no interest in drinking this cuz it just felt all wrong after all the hype about the brilliance of the green colour, being an indicator of the quality of the matcha you're drinking! I shouldn't imply that this was of poor quality, but it certainly was a huge disappointment for my first at-home matcha experience....

I love the kit! It’s thoughtfully put together and arrived in great condition. My matcha journey is new following a recent trip to Japan. I had seen Aikenka Matcha on Instagram even before that trip and I resonated with the brand so much that I knew I wanted to revisit their offerings. I have a couple tins of matcha from Japan so I got the Aikenka houchija tin to go with my kit and I can’t wait to try it!

how should I store my matcha
We recommend storing opened matcha in a cool dark place (like a pantry) away from heat, light, and humidity.
The next best storage option would be in the fridge, but with caution.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Matcha absorbs moisture and odors easily, so keep it sealed.
- Let it reach room temperature before opening – Condensation can form inside the container if cold matcha is exposed to warm air, affecting quality.
Avoid the Fridge
If frequently used – Taking it in and out can cause condensation and degrade the matcha faster.
